Activision and Tony Hawk Plan To Tear Up Your iOS Device This Summer With ‘Tony Hawk’s Shred Session’

THSS_artReleasing sometime later this Summer, Activision Publishing has just announced their upcoming new Tony Hawk mobile title, Tony Hawk’s Shred Session.

Developed specifically for smartphones and tablets by UK studio Big Bit, the game will employ a swiping control mechanism to allow players to pull off trick combos in various locations including the Santa Monica boardwalk and the streets of London. Level up and unlock even more advanced tricks. Tony Hawk’s Shred Session is geared toward both newcomers to the Tony Hawk game franchise as well as “give longtime fans the depth and complexity they expect in a Tony Hawk game”.

Cole THSS-iOS_14-04-22_092“I‘m stoked that Activision shares my vision for an original skateboarding game on mobile,” said Tony Hawk. “It’s exciting to evolve with new technologies, and Shred Session is a whole new direction.”

There will be two gameplay modes, Survival, “where players pull off continuous tricks and combos as long as they can”; and Shred Sessions, “where players rip through levels to complete classic Tony Hawk game objectives, or compete head-to-head against friends’ top scores”.

Players may choose to skate as one of six modern-day pro skaters (Chris Cole, Aaron “Jaws” Homoki, Lizzie Armanto, David Gonzalez, Riley Hawk, and of course Tony Hawk himself), each of whom has their own signature moves. Riders can be outfitted with real skate brand apparel, and your deck can be customized using signature designs and bonuses which may help you earn even higher scores.

Tony Hawk previous made an appearance on the iPhone in 2010 with Activision’s port of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, but that has since been removed from the app store. Tony Hawk’s Shred Session looks like it will be a free-to-play title, so it’ll be interesting to see how the gameplay compares to the existing (paid) more fingerboard-style open-world skating games in this genre including Touchgrind Skate 2 and Pure Skate.

There is no exact release date available, but you can follow the game on Facebook at www.facebook.com/THShredSession or on Instagram at @THShredSession for all the latest info. And the folks over at Touch Arcade have a hands-on preview of the game as well
