A re-implementation of 2002’s Star Wars: Epic Duels, the Unmatched Games System (launched in 2019) allows for ultimate nerd battles, pairing up unlikely foes from pop culture (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Jurassic Park), Mythology (Sinbad, Medusa), literature (Alice, Dracula, Sherlock Holmes, folklore (Robin Hood, Bigfoot) and the real world (King Arthur, Bruce Lee) in feats of strategical combat.
For those who might be unfamiliar with the gameplay:
Unmatched is a tactical, turn-based game where two (or more) people face off against each other in an epic battle. Each player controls a Hero and their sidekick(s). Each player has to perform two actions each turn – be it movement and card draw or playing an action card. The game ends when one of the Heroes (or Heroines) drops to zero health points. If one of the players runs out of cards – their Heroine (or Hero) starts rapidly bleeding out.
And that’s really it! Each Hero’s deck of cards is pre-set – so it’s quite easy to learn who can do what (and in what quantity), each Hero has their own unique ability, some cards can only be used by the Hero, some only by their sidekick(s), and some can be used by anyone.
Unmatched: Digital Edition will have all of the standard features players have come to expect from Acram Digital’s board game adaptations, including:
- Online Multiplayer
- Synchronous and Asynchronous modes
- Full cross-platform multiplayer
- Available on iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, and Nintendo Switch
- 3 levels of AI for solo play purposes
- Game rules unchanged and consulted with the game’s designers
- Intuitive UI
- Preserved the unique feeling of the actual board game
Acram Digital has always knocked it out of the park with their previous digital board games (I own their complete library of titles on iOS). In fact, they already previously revealed that they are also currently working on a digital adaptation of Rio Grande Game’s Concordia as well.
