SkyGoblin has decided to Kickstart the third and final chapter of their fantastic afro-noir point & click adventure saga, The Journey Down.
If you’ve been following this site, or my personal Twitter feed, they you’ll already know how much of a fan I am of the first two games in this series.
For those of you who might be unfamiliar with The Journey Down, it is a superb, classic, Monkey Island-style point and click adventure game with a captivating storyline, interesting puzzles, stunning graphics and top-notch voice work.
Set in the outskirts of St Armando and the streets of Kingsport Bay, the game follows the misadventures of brothers, Bwana and Kito, who own and operate an unsuccessful waterfront Gas ‘n’ Charter service and who accidentally stumble into a dangerous situation when they meet a beautiful and mysterious new client named Lina. It is a wondrous tale with many twists and turns and plenty of humor.
The first two chapters of the series were funded in a more traditional manner, but this time around the team is reaching out to the Kickstarter community to help them get the game made.
While the Kickstarter campaign unfortunately makes no mention of an iOS release, I am hopeful that should the game fund, that it will also be ported to iOS as well, like the previous two chapters. Otherwise, I will most-definitely be checking this out on my Macbook, as I am really interested in seeing how Bwana and Kito’s story ends.
At the time of this article, The Journey Down – Chapter 3 has already reached almost 65% of its $35,748 funding goal and US backers can get a DRM-free copy of the third chapter (for PC/Mac/Linux) for just an $11 pledge. There are additional pledge levels for getting the entire trilogy as well as digital soundtracks, and other unique items.
I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys well-made point and click adventure games.
