hud-lifestyle-1Each year, distracted driving leads to an alarming number of car accidents and fatalities.

Even in the moment or two during which you take your eyes off the road to look at your GPS display something bad could happen.

GPS and Navigation giant Garmin, is hoping to help make GPS-navigated driving even safer with the creation of their all-new HUD device, which displays your turn-by-turn directions directly on your windshield so that they are easily view-able at any time without the need to take your eyes off the road ahead of you.

This feature is becoming more and more popular in higher-end vehicles, but with their new $129.99 (retail) HUD device, Garmin is making this technology available to anyone, with any model of car.

You simply place the device on your dashboard and it uses Bluetooth to connect to any iPhone running either the Garmin StreetPilot® or NAVIGON mobile apps.

The HUD then projects information like estimated time of arrival, Lane Assist, speed and traffic cameras, turn-by-turn directions and more onto a small piece of film that you’ve mounted on your windshield. The piece of film along with an adjustable brightness setting allows the information presented by the HUD device to be seen clearly both at night or even while in direct sunlight.
