This week we have an interesting mix of titles for the Thursday new release round up.
Starting things off is Chillingo with another level-based physics puzzle game called, Diggin’ Dogs. As the title suggests, it’s not another ‘bird’ title, this time they’ve gone to the dogs. Players must dig their way through 61 levels collecting bones and buried treasure, avoiding hazards as they attempt to find the hidden coins, all three of the secret bones and the golden boot to master each level.
Next up is Boulder Colorado’s Backflip Studios with the third title in their popular Ragdoll Blaster series. If the thought of firing cute ragdolls out of a cannon still entertains you (YES INDEED), then you won’t to miss this opportunity to experience what looks to be the best title in the franchise to date. New features include 100+ levels, 5 new worlds, 5 distinct ragdoll types (each with unique abilities) and loads more ragdolly goodness!
FarSight Studios, well-known for their console pinball titles, brings their pinball wizardry to the iOS platforms. Play ‘exact recreations of the all-time greatest pinball tables from Williams®, Bally®, Stern Pinball®, and Gottlieb® together in one game’. The Tales of the Arabian Nights® table is unlocked for unlimited play with Ripley’s Believe It or Not®, Theatre of Magic®, Black Hole™ tables all available via IAP. FarSight is promising regular monthly updates with additional classic tables for purchase as well as online tournaments and additional game modes.
Speaking of classics (though one I am not familiar with) CAVE CO.,LTD. has ported the classic vertical shooter DoDonPachi Blissful Death (DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou). According to the publisher, “This port now consists with exhilarating combo and hyper systems but will you be able to dodge and survive the ultimate bullet hell?” so I guess it has that going for it. I will have to see how this compares to my favorite iOS pinball game, Zen Pinball.
‘Days after a virus turns most of a small town into crazed killers, one man struggles to find a cure before it’s too late.’ That’s the plot of the new third-person, open world shooter / survival game, End Night. Optimized for iPad2 and featuring 60fps gameplay this free roaming title looks like it could give you some sleepless nights, and some creepy zombie battling entertainment. Crescent Moon Games’ latest publishing effort, Raid Leader puts you in charge of group of heroes, guiding them through a land plagued by monsters and demons. Sporting three character classes (Knight, Hunter and Priest), looting, epic boss fights and loads of unlockables, this game will certainly appeal to RPG fans looking for their latest fix.
Finally, rounding out this Thursday’s notable new apps are a couple of titles from thee talented folks at LucasArts. First is the iPhone release of the fourth part of Telltale’s popular Monkey Island Tales adventure game series, Monkey Island Tales 4. Last but not least is Star Wars Pit Droids. “While young Anakin Skywalker races to fame on the surface of Tatooine, the pit droids are running amok behind the scenes! Help Watto, the Toydarian junk dealer, corral his droids as they march mindlessly into danger throughout 75 challenging levels in a galaxy far, far away.” The graphics look nice on this logic puzzle game and I’m a sucker for games set in the Star Wars universe (even if the did mention Episode One in the app description).
Let us know in the comments if there are any notable new Thursday releases that we missed, or which ones you’ll be picking up.
