Today, the App Hall of Fame has just announced its twelve inaugural inductees. The site, which is the brainchild of Jeff Scott (148 apps, Best App Ever Awards) aims to recognize the very best apps available in the App Store. With the huge number of new apps coming out each and every day, fantastic titles can drop off the top 100 lists and be lost amongst the masses. The goal of Jeff’s newest site is to help bring attention to these gems, whether or not they still rank highly on one of the “top app” lists. The App Hall of Fame’s hope is to encourage a new audience to discover these apps or help existing owners of these titles to rediscover an app they may have somehow forgotten.

Without further ado, the first 12 honorees are…

How are the nominees selected?

Jeff has handpicked his nomination committee members from individuals with years of experience “looking at, writing about, and – in some cases – developing apps. Who better to bring these aging app gems back into the spotlight and keep their memory alive?” I was fortunate enough to have been selected as one of these committee members and I assure you that with so many great apps available (both games and non-games) selecting my nominations was no easy task! A full list of committee members is available here.

How it works

Applications are nominated throughout each month by our knowledgeable (and good-looking!) committee members. Once each month, our committee will then vote on the nominated applications and induct, at most, 12 applications into the App Hall of Fame. Those inducted applications will be displayed on the site for all time as a reference to app lovers new and old. That means you! And us!

While the site will initially be focusing only on iPhone and iPod Touch applications, iPad apps and apps for the Android platform will be added soon as well. Additional platforms are also being considered. In addition, the App Hall of Fame has teamed up with Flurry to help give each inducted app an additional promotional boost by donating $1,000 in AppCircle promotional credit to each inductee.

How can you get involved? How about some FREE Apps?

You can participate in the monthy celebration and win free copies of the the inducted apps! That’s right, simply by signing up for the App Hall of Fame mailing list you’ll have a chance to win a copy of an inducted app.
