Z-Man Games is bringing Pandemic to the iPad.
The publisher of award-winning board and card games Pandemic, Agricola and Carcassonne (acquired publishing rights last year), Z-Man Games has just announced the creation of an independent digital publishing company, F2Z Digital Media Inc.. With a release date still to be announced, F2Z Digital Media isn’t wasting any time, already teasing their first title, an iPad release of Z-Man Game’s popular 2008 cooperative gaming hit, Pandemic.
Previously studios like Playdek (Agricola), The Coding Monkeys (Carcassonne) and Big Daddy Creations (Neuroshima Hex) have been in charge of the digital releases of Z-Man Game’s physically published properties, but now the studio hopes to capture a piece of that digital market as well, with the formation of their new studio.
Four diseases have broken out in the world and it is up to a team of specialists in various fields to find cures for these diseases before mankind is wiped out.
Players must work together, playing to their characters’ strengths and planning their strategy of eradication before the diseases overwhelm the world with ever-increasing outbreaks. But the diseases are outbreaking fast and time is running out: the team must try to stem the tide of infection in diseased areas while also towards cures.
A truly cooperative game where you all win or you all lose.
This new edition has been entirely redesigned and includes two new roles: The Contingency Planner and the Quarantine Specialist.
I’ve never played Pandemic, but have heard A LOT of good things about it, so I will definitely be checking this one out upon release. You can watch Wil Wheaton and company playing the physical version of the game on this episode of TableTop.
The studio’s full release schedule will be announced later this year, however other games in the Z-Man portfolio are planned to follow, including expansions for Pandemic and Parade, a unique card game from a Japanese partner which takes you to Wonderland. It sees a physical release from Z-Man Games next month.
