Another big slate of new releases is now upon us including several much-anticipated sequels, exciting ports and some new titles from some of our favorite indies.

Kicking things of with the freebies (as I always do) is an unexpected treat from Hutch. Regular readers of this site will know that I was a big fan of their game Smash Cops. Well, now they are back with Smash Cops Heat, an all-new version of the game ‘tuned from the ground up with game-changing freemium mechanics’. If the price tag of Smash Cops kept you from playing the first time around or are just eager for some more Smash Cop fun, then you are definitely going to want to check out this version with plenty of free content. Other freebies include the Pachinko style gameplay of The Adorables and PikPok’s new zombie apocalypse shooter, Into the Dead.

As for the paid titles, they pretty much run the gamut in both genre and price.

At the 99¢ price point we get the usual collection of inviting looking games from Chillingo, which this week includes Man in a Maze™ a neat looking stealth / action / Pac-Man style game set in a game show universe and Nitro Chimp a 3D endless race featuring daredevil motorcycle-riding chimp, powerups and a cast of other crazy characters.

Mad Processor, the team responsible for the hit, Parcel Panic are back with an all new 3D racing game with munitions. In Motorblast you can literally blow away the other racers if they get in your way. It is available for a limited time at a special launch price of 99¢. And the last of the 99¢ titles is a “12-bit action platformer” called Mutant Mudds, which is already currently available on both the Nintendo 3DS (as a downloadable title) and Windows. It looks like it is absolutely brimming with character and is an homage to the pixellated worlds on which many of us cut our gaming teeth on.

Sega publishes a charming looking new word game from Three Rings called Spellwood – Word Game Adventure in which players can try their hand at 90 solo quests or challenge friends to multiplayer games, strategically using magical items to gain an edge over their competitor. As I mentioned yesterday, Mountain Sheep is back with Minigore 2: Zombies the zombie-filled sequel to their mega-hit granddaddy of dual-stick shooters.

Redwind Software wants to be the center of your next get together with their AirPlay enabled Pictionary-style drawing game for the iPad. With an iPad, a copy of Draw-It, Push-It, and Apple TV and copies of the free Push-It you are ready for some digital party gaming fun (and a a mighty tempting house for thieves).

If you are in the market for a new twitter client, then you may want to consider The Iconfactory’s completely redesigned Twitterriffic 5 app. I owned a previous version of Twitterriffic, but never stuck with it, however this new release does look like quite nice and clean. It is a universal app and is available at a special launch price of $2.99 (50% off).

Rounding out the new releases are the slightly more price titles which includes a couple of high-profile ports.

The dynamic adventure game duo of Bulkypix and Pendulo Studios which brought us the fantastic game Yesterday. Hollywood Monsters is the iOS port of Pendulo’s 2011 release, The Next Big Thing and it is another job, very well done!

Rockstar Games continues with their classic PS2 ports, this time it is the 2002 open world action-adventure game, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. the pre-release buzz is that we expect it to be on par with the studios great iOS port of Grand Theft Auto 3 from last December.

Last, but certainly not least is the fourth installment of Gameloft’s hugely successful Modern Combat series, titled Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour. Bigger than ever, with “new presentation effects like real-time shadows and physics-based enemy deaths” and “new hacking countermeasures will be in place in an effort to improve the (up to 12-player) multiplayer experience”.
