After completing a very successful Kickstarter Campaign (reaching nearly 300% of its funding goal) a little over a year ago, North Star Games is finally ready to release Evolution – The Video Game.
The wait is nearly over, for today, NSG has officially announced that this highly anticipated digital adaptation of their award-winning strategy game will be releasing on iOS, Android and Steam on Tuesday, February 12th.
Evolution is the video game of strategy and adaptation, brought to you by North Star Games. With a swipe or a click, players must adapt their species to a constantly changing ecosystem where food is scarce and predators lurk. With 17 interactive traits to adapt with, the combinations are bountiful and every game, a new adventure! Once released, players will enjoy a fast and fluid, learn-by-playing tutorial, single-player against multiple AI bosses, exciting campaigns and challenges, multiplayer with skill-based matchmaking and a beautiful watercolor art style that truly brings Evolution to life on your iOS device.
I will be saving my formal, detailed review of the game until it is released, but as a day one backer of the campaign, it has been thrilling to see this digital port “evolve” (see what I did there) over the past year and grow in scope, depth and polish, and I cannot wait for this to be released to all my fellow digital boardgamers who will undoubtedly have a blast digging into that strategy and nuances of this brilliant tabletop game.
With beautiful animations that bring the game to life and a multitude of solo and (cross-platform) turn-based and simultaneous multiplayer ways to play, including a brand new campaign mode, Evolution – The Video Game is more than just a literal cardboard on a screen port, a lot of time and thought has gone into getting this one right and making it a fresh, sensory experience.
Again, I’ll have more to say next month once this is officially released, however if you want more details, the Kickstarter campaign updates is a virtual treasure trove of information.
I suggest that you some iTunes credit at the ready and you can check out a little teaser of the gameplay below.
Evolution will be available in English on PC and Mac via Steam for $14.99 and as free-to-try on iOS and Android with a full version available for $9.99 on the same day. Those who purchase the game in the first week will receive a 20% launch sale discount.
Now that NSG’s first digital release is nearly out in the wild…is it too early to request a digital port of The Quacks of Quedlinburg?
