Wow! I can’t believe it’s been almost 5 years since Damp Gnat ported their gorgeous, Rube Goldberg-ish mini golf game, Wonderputt to the iPad.
Fortunately Reece Millidge, the man behind Damp Gnat, wasn’t willing to allow his beautiful game get swallowed up in the rapidly approaching App-ocalypse, updating the game from 32-bit to 64-bit.
Not only that, but he took things a bit further, making the once iPad-only game a Universal app, adding support for small screen devices and revamping the UI to make the game even more pleasurable to play on any screen big or small!
There is a new auto/pinch to zoom gesture that lets you get in close to the ball to “master those tricky shots” and now you don’t have to worry about your digits blocking your shots because you can now tap and drag from anywhere on screen to take your shot.
Rounding out the update are some new achievements as well.
Though still on my device, it had admittedly been a little while since I’d played Wonderputt. That was rectified quickly. The new controls felt fantastic and it played beautifully on both my iPad and iPhone 6+.
My 10 year-old daughter saw me playing and her eyes went wide as she took in the wonder of the magically transforming course. I’ve been instructed that it’ll be going on her iPod tonight.
It’s worth noting that Damp Gnat’s other iOS hit, Icycle: On Thin Ice (which is published by Chillingo) is already 64-bit compliant as well.
Apparently Damp Gnat is currently hard at work prototyping an exciting new, secretive iOS game, this time built for mobile & tablet from the ground up. Look for more details on this one as we get them.
