mysterium-boxAsmodee Digital has been a really great proponent of digital board games.

Since purchasing Days of Wonder a couple of years back, Asmodee burst onto the digital scene with stellar updates to Days of Wonders’ existing catalog of titles and then followed those up with a fantastic port of Splendor. They plan to release a digital port of Colt Express sometime this month and last week they stated beta testing a (great) digital implementation of Potion Explosion.

Now they’ve just detailed another upcoming digital adaptation, the award-winning cooperative, deduction game Mysterium, which is set to hit mobile devices and PCs this December. Asmodee has teamed up with French board game publisher Libellud and developer Playsoft Games to develop a faithful digital port along with some exclusive new gameplay.

ghost-assigns-cardsIn Mysterium players are invited to travel back to the 1920s to attend a séance and held at the haunted Warwick Manor by renowned clairvoyant Mr. MacDowell. As a team, you have seven hours to make contact with a ghost to unmask his killer by searching his memories for clues.

Unable to talk, the amnesic ghost communicates with the mediums through visions, which are represented in the game by illustrated cards. The mediums must decipher the images to help the ghost remember how he was murdered: Who did the crime? Where did it take place? Which weapon caused the death? The more the mediums cooperate and guess well, the easier it is to catch the right culprit.

Solo and Multiplayer options.

There is also a solo Story Mode which “offers players the possibility to discover who killed the ghost, in which room and with what weapon through a several hours long investigation full of twists and turns”.

The app will feature exclusive digital content!

Players well-versed in Mysterium’s secrets can rest assured that Asmodee Digital and Libellud have included exclusive features for the digital version of Mysterium!

At launch, players will be able to discover the story of the first original psychic; the stories of the 5 other psychics will be released later as free updates. Still want more? With Hidden Signs, the experience will be enhanced with new mysteries and elements to discover. Available as an in-app purchase at the release of the game in December, this official expansion of Mysterium offers the player new enigmas to solve alone or with friends.

I own the physical board game, but haven’t had a chance to get it to the table yet, so this will be a great way to learn to play. I can’t wait to check this one out, expect more coverage once the game is released.
