DotEmu, a French developer/publisher specializing in bringing retro games to current platforms, has just announced that they will be releasing Rod Land: A Fairy Tale next month on IOS! This will be the latest release in their Jaleco Arcade Series following previous titles including Avenging Spirit, Earth Defense Force, 64th Street, and P-47 The Phantom Fighter.
The game originally appeared in 1990 for in Arcades and went on to be released for the Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, Commodore 64, Commodore Amiga, Nintendo Game Boy and NES as well. DotEmu’s release will be a universal app.
Play a little fairy with magical powers and try to save your mother, kidnapped by some horrible creatures! Rod Land: A Fairy Tale will immerse you into a colorful world where you have to use your magic wand and your talent if you want to free your family and bring peace back.
The game will feature two modes of play, Story and Survival (which is all-new for this release). In Story mode you play Rod Land: A Fairy Tale stage by stage, unlocking each as you progress through the game, trying to earn the best score possible. If you die, you can just start over a level. There are over 60 levels to complete and 3 different possible endings. Survival mode however requires a bit more skill. You start off with 9 lives and you must try to make it from the beginning to the end once again trying to earn the best score possible. You’ll be able to share those scores on Facebook, OpenFeint or with the Game Center.
DotEmu promises “a great gaming experience, a solid gameplay, a wonderful 90’s soundtrack, a lot of bonuses and surprises, this game will immerse you in a fun and colorful story wherever you are, thanks to your iPhone, iPod Touch or your iPad!” The game is currently scheduled for release on Tuesday September 6th. I’m not familiar with the original game, but this does look like it could be a fun little retro platformer. What do you think? Leave a comment below.
