This week we have a lot of re-releases of high profile titles on their previously untapped platforms, as well as some fresh faces that you should keep an eye on.
Starting things off we saw three HUGE iPad hits make their way to the iPhone and three popular iPhone titles get the “big screen” treatment. Trying to show that size DOESN’T matter, Oniric Games’ sports a pocket-sized version of their platformer Elemental Rage, while Endloop shows us their small Chicken Balls and Superbrothers reveals their original concept with Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP Micro. On the reverse side of things Federico Kalayjian, Square Enix and EA Mobile set out to prove that bigger is indeed better with their respective iPad releases of Smoody HD, FINAL FANTASY III for iPad and NBA JAM by EA SPORTS™ for iPad.
For the puzzle lover there were several nice App Store additions this week including Molecube’s Monstruction, which tests players’ spacial relations skills by having them build structures and defend them from being pushed over by cute (but mean) monsters. Avallon Alliance Ltd. released Jump Out!, and adorable buggy-themed, level-based physics puzzler in a similar vein as Cut the Rope.
If transportation games are your thing then, Zxh Games has got you covered with their rocket fueled coin collector, Mini Rocket (which is actually FREE today). Triniti Interactive Limited takes on the world of stunt 2D motocross racing with motoCROSS trixx and Chillingo puts a train set in the palm of your hand with its universal app, Choo Choo Steam Trains. But that’s not all Chillingo has to offer this week, they also released Play Kalei on the iPhone and iPad. It’s an object finding game with a twist…literally. You see, the object of Play Kalei is to find the point on the photograph that the (distorted) kaleidoscope image at the top relates to.
Continuing on, Telltale Games has released Back to the Future Ep 2 HD, it is the next installment of their adventure game inspired by the popular series of films. Speaking of sequels, Bulkypix is back with the second installment of their Deskplorers series of games for kids, this time it is all about Pirates matey! Deskplorers “Pirates” (Episode Two) is available in separate releases for the iPhone and iPad.
Finally we round out this week’s notable new releases with Namco once again taking the PAC-MAN franchise to another genre…. match-3. In PAC-CHOMP! you need to get rid of ghosts like BLINKY, INKY and CLYDE by matching their colors. Can this video game icon get you to try yet another match-3 game…I’m guessing he will. And last, but certainly not least, we have a unique little golf game (yeah I like golf games) called Par Out Golfis a universal app from newcomer Endless Wave Software. It borrows the gameplay mechanics of some previous titles including Doodle Golf and Invisible Links and improves on them dramatically and adds some character of their own. Using your finger you draw the path of your ball, the trick is taking into consideration the wind speed and direction…oh and did I mention that the course is covered with clouds, so you can’t see any thing when you start to draw. It’s a fun title, with Game Center support for achievements and multiplayer online match-making.
As always, please leave a comment below letting us know what new releases you picked up this week.
