MOBAs and CCGs (Collectible Card Games) are two genres that have burst onto the multiplayer mobile gaming scene and totally dominated over the last few years, thanks to massive hits like Vainglory and Hearthstone.

But we don’t generally get to see the two genres together in the same game. MOBA Duels is a MOBA, but it’s also a CCG, and it looks awesome.

The aim is to destroy your opponent’s base in 1v1 matches. You’re up against a time limit, and you have eight cards to play from a total unlockable selection of 54. These cover all the hero bases, including Tank, Archer, Mage, Soldier, Assassin, and so on.

MOBA Duels is a deep strategy game with plenty of factors to consider. You have to work out where to place your heroes, of course, with Archers doing best at range and Assassins sneaking up behind your opponent for a silent kill.

But you also need to use the right cards to attack the right opponents. Archers are deadly against tanks, for example, but rubbish against Mages. To dominate, you’ll need to know the strengths and weakness of the cards.

And this only gets more complicated. As you win duels you unlock chests containing new cards, and each hero card has four unique skills attached to it, which you can upgrade as you ascend through the levels.

Heroes also have their own individual attack patterns, giving the game infinite tactical depth as you learn everybody’s skills and movements and strengths and weaknesses.

MOBA Duels is free-to-play, which means you can pay to speed up your progress. What you can’t do, however, is pay for powerful hero cards. The only way to get them is to win duels, meaning MOBA Duels really is a game of skill for everybody.

In its current form the game is limited to 1v1 battles, but there’s a whole lot more in the pipeline, including 2v2 duels, tournaments, new skills, and events.
