Last week, sales of Boston-based Learning Touch’s FirstWords series of apps for the iPhone and iPad crossed the one-million download mark. These are an excellent series of learning-to-read apps, that my 4 year-old daughter absolutely loves. We own a copy of FirstWords Deluxe which definitely helped teach her her letters and enhanced her ability to spell or at least recognize certain words by site. Learning Touch has crafted the apps to do this in a fun almost jigsaw puzzle-like manner that reinforces the learning through multiple visual and audio cues. I highly recommend any title in the series to parents with small children, with the FirstWords Deluxe being a great place to start since it offers a mix of different themes including animals, vehicles, colors, shapes and words from around the house.
