boston-fig-iconThis Saturday, Indie game developers in both the digital and tabletop realms will be descending upon MIT’s Johnson Athletic Center in Cambridge Massachusetts for the 4th Annual Boston Festival of Indie Games.

The indie spirit will be alive and well in Boston this weekend!

This year’s festival will feature nearly 60 fresh mobile, PC and console games in the Digital Games Showcase alone. And if that wasn’t enough gaming, the Tabletop Games Showcase which is sponsored by indie game printer AdMagic will boast almost 50 board, card and tabletop games for you to try out as well.

The complete event runs from 10am through 8pm (registration begins at 9am) for a nice long day of inexpensive entertainment. Play lots of game demos and speak directly with the people who designed them. Ask them questions, offer suggestions or just find out more about the game development process from the friendly indie gaming community. This should be a fun event with loads of games to choose from, spanning just about every genre, platform and mechanic you could want.

Kids ages 12 and under are free to attend and for everyone else, if you purchase your tickets in advance they are only $12 (plus a small fee).

HTC and Valve will be offering attendees demos of HTC Vive, the Virtual Reality system powered by SteamVR which is being developed in partnership by these two companies.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Susan Gold, creator of the Global Game Jam, a huge annual event and the world’s largest game jam, with over 30,000 participants from over 80 countries. There will also be a performance by the Videri String Quartet and the evening will cap off with the 2015 Figgies Awards.

This is the first year that I’ve been able to attend the festival, so I’m really excited to see what it’s all about and check out all of the new interesting, inventive and creative ideas the indie community has come up with.
