It is an interesting week of new releases capped off with a couple of iOS ports of classic arcade action from SEGA and SNK PLAYMORE.
Let’s kick things off this week with Stick To It, a cute looking one-button puzzle/platforming game where you must help reunite Spike with his Mommy. By pressing your finger to the screen, you cause Spike’s (umm) spikes to come out and he’ll freeze in place, let go and he continues to move. Using the mechanic you have to navigate Spike through the level and to his Mommy. The game is FREE for its first 48 hours of release, then it goes up to $1.99 and has no micro transactions, so make sure to download this one tonight!
Next up is a new game from G5 Entertainment which is available right now. The latest of G5’s hugely popular hidden object puzzle adventure games, Inbetween Land has a mysterious storyline involving a strange flying island which is causing people to go missing. It is up to you to “explore this creepy island using the clues Mary left, make friends with the spirits of the island’s people, solve challenging puzzles, find missing crystals and take your friend back home”. Free to try, the in-game full content unlock for the iPhone, $2.99 and iPad, $4.99) are currently at a launch sale price of up to 40% off.
Falling into the “I’d buy that for a dollar’ category we have…
FDG Entertainment will be releasing Roar Rampage a crazy and chaotic looking gigantic monster-laden game in which players wield their creature’s massive arms (and occasional weapon) to obliterate everything that gets in their path. With over 20 weapons and power ups, boss fights and more, this looks like a fun source of wanton destruction.
Chillingo’s latest publishing effort, Be Together is a title I nearly skipped mentioning as it looks eerily similar to Godzilab’s amazing and original iBlast Moki physics puzzle game series. I’ll have to reserve judgment until I’ve had a chance to play, but from what I’ve seen from the screenshots and gameplay trailer, it appears that at least on the surface, Chinese development studio LinkGoGame has borrowed very heavily from Moki. While the gameplay appears to differ some, the level-design and aesthetics are very Moki-like.
With an art style reminiscent of iconic Apple print ads, Krashlander is a battle of man vs. robot as you harness the protective, yet destructive power of your krashsuit to assist you in your quest for revenge as you ski down mountains, and crash into things.
As for the apps that will cost you a bit more than a buck, lets start with Bulkypix’s latest game, PinWar. A combination of air hockey and pinball, this vibrant neon-infused head to head battle features a number of different table layouts, solo missions and local multiplayer gameplay on the same device.
SEGA ports its 2006 arcade game After Burner Climax to iOS. Also released on consoles in 2010, this high-flying arcade game puts you behind the yoke of some of the fastest fighter jets to take down enemy planes while avoiding getting targeted yourself. Somehow I don’t think I’ve played an Afterburner game since the Sega Master System, so it looks like a great time to return to the franchise.
Finally we have another port, this time from SNK PLAYMORE, and their iOS version of the 1998 Neo Geo run and gun game METAL SLUG 2. While the reviews of SNK’s previous METAL SLUG iOS title have been a bit mixed, they have trended toward the positive, so fans of the series will definitely want to consider picking up this one as well.
As always, let us know which games you’ll be picking up tonight when these (and more) new releases go live at 11pm EST.
