For all you fellow East Coasters it is 11pm (EDT) on Halloween Night, so you know what that means…your kids are probably just starting to crash from their sugar highs.

It also means that a bunch more new iOS titles have just been unleashed onto the App Store, Yeehaw!

This week there seems to be a no shortage of free-to-play titles, so maybe you can afford to spend a few more bucks on those big expensive titles that came out earlier in the week from EA Mobile and 2K Games. 😉

I’m tired so let’s jump right into the new releases.

If there is anything we left out, let us know in the comments section and which of these games (if any) you’ll be picking up tonight.

iPhone

iPad

My Little Hero
ACNE Play

Free (iPhone)
Free (iPad)

Previously released in May by NCsoft (who’s mobile division has since been shutdown), ACNE Play has just re-released the game under their own account. In an act of amazing good will, the game will be FREE FOR THE FIRST WEEK of release so that anyone who previously purchased My Little Hero can get the new version free of charge. Meaning they will continue to receive updates including the all-new Candy Island world and access to Game Center for achievements added specifically for this release.

Universal

Madden NFL 13 Social
Electronic Arts

Free

EA is changing the face of Madden with this all new way to experience the franchise in their free-to-play, cross-platform, turn-based version of grid iron glory. ‘Build your playbook and sign your team of real NFL players, then crush your friends in one-on-one competition!’ Looks like a cool take on the game, and not being a regular Madden player myself I’m excited to see a free way into the franchise to test the waters.

Universal

Letris & Friends
Ivanovich Games

Free

Ivanovich Games’ popular word game series ‘Letris’, is back in a new free-to-play incarnation with three distinct game modes to challenge both you and your friends. Those looking for a zen-like experience can check out ‘Wordmatrix’ mode, where players must try to clear the screen ‘without deadlines or stress’, just attempting to build the longest words possible while leaving no letters behind. ‘Snake’ mode is a speed run with 2 minutes on the clock to build as many words as possible only using adjoining letters. Finally you have the signature ‘Letris’ mode, including falling letters and handy power-ups. Word game fans will want to be sure to download this one.

Universal

SpinCraft
Bulkypix

Free

More free fun, in this latest platformer published by Bulkypix which puts you in the pilot’s seat of a spinning space ship, as you try to collect crystals and deliver pizzas on time. Upgrade your SpinCraft as go and unlock new power-ups and customizations.

Universal

Coin Army
Chillingo Ltd

Free

It looks like Chillingo has decided to get into the ‘coin dozing’ genre. I know these titles are really popular, but honestly they don’t tend to hold my interest for very long. So why did I include it? Because it looks like they are taking it in a slightly different direction, making it more of a defense game, complete with boss battles, rather than your typical grind for virtual prizes.

A few other free-to-play titles that may be worth a look…

Universal

ARC Squadron
Psyonix

99¢

This one-touch third-person (or perhaps I should say ship) space shooter kind of flew in under my radar (no pun intended). I came across the trailer while searching for new releases on the New Zealand app store and was blown away. This looks great!

Universal

Heads Up! Hot Dogs
[adult swim]

99¢

Billed as ‘The most realistic hot-dog-head-balancing game EVER’ this latest piece of absurdity from the twisted folks at [adult swim] has the potential to either be really bad in GOOD way, or just really bad. The retro styling and awesome chiptunes soundtrack in the trailer below were enough to grab my attention, now let’s see if it can keep it…

iPad

Citadel Arcanes
Bulkypix

$1.99

A port of a popular PC title, this game is part Sim-City part Match-3. Players must solve match-3 puzzles in order to unlock pieces to build their Medieval city. It should have pretty broad appeal.

iPhone

iPad

Musketeers: Constance’s adventure
Nevosoft

$2.99 (iPhone)
$4.99 (iPad)

The latest of Nevosoft’ hidden object / puzzle games, this time somewhat based on Alexandre Dumas classic novel. I believe that this too may be a port of a previously available PC title.

Universal

iBomber Attack
Chillingo Ltd

$2.99

This latest entry in Cobra Mobile’s iBomber franchise brings players back down to earth giving them control over a tank this time around. However they are still keeping the destruction count high and armaments plentiful, including bombs, bunker busters, mini-guns, flame throwers, rockets, airstrike’s, supply drops and super boosts.

Universal

Dexter the Game 2
Marc Ecko Entertainment

$2.99

Based on the hit Showtime TV series Dexter, you get to control blood splatter expert (and serial killer) Dexter Morgan as he investigates Miami crime scenes and stalk his deserving victims. This is the second game in this series and features voice work from the television series star Michael C. Hall. I never played the first game, because at the time I didn’t watch Dexter, but now that I’m a huge Dexter fan, I cannot wait to roll out the plastic and embrace my Dark Passenger.

iPhone

iPad

Borderlands Legends
2K Games

$4.99 (iPhone)
$6.99 (iPad)

Released Earlier this week, Borderland Legends is NOT a mobile version of the hugely successful and currently VERY popular Borderlands 2 PC/console title. I just wanted to make that clear as there could be some confusion. Instead it is a top-down, arena-style game specifically designed for mobile and tablet platforms. Players control one of the franchise’s popular characters (each with their own unique attributes) battling waves of enemies, earning XP, collecting currency and using these to purchase upgrades and unlock additional skills and abilities.

Universal

Need for Speed™ Most Wanted
Electronic Arts

$6.99

The other major AAA release that came out earlier this week was EA Mobile’s Need for Speed™ Most Wanted. I’ve just started playing, but I can already say that this is definitely the best in the NFS series on iOS. Developed by EA’s recently formed Firemonkeys studio (in collaboration with NFS vets, Criterion) the game features amazingly detailed graphics and physics, solid controls, fast, fun game play and Speed Points earned while playing the game on any platform (mobile, console, PC) help to elevate players on the overall Most Wanted list. An amazing debut from the Firemonkeys team.
