Let’s kick of this week’s notable new releases with a quartet of freemium titles that are certain to entertain. First off, Tapulous, the company behind quite possibly the best (and free) Tap Tap Revenge series of iOS rhythm games tries their hand at something a bit different. Their latest app ClubWorld, is a free real-time simulation game that challenges players to design and operate their very own own nightclub. While there are in-app purchases, the game can be played for free. Miniclip is also back this week, with a new title in their Fragger game series, Fragger Lost City. Lost City is a port of the popular physics-based action/puzzle game from their site Miniclip.com. GAMEVIL, is trying their hand at the freemium model as well, with their fun Pictionary-like title Chalk n’ Talk.
Finally for all you retro fans, Atari has just released Atari’s Greatest Hits, which includes PONG (for free). Players can re-experience up to 100 classic Atari arcade and 2600 titles right on their iOS device. There are 18 Classic Atari Arcade Games and 92 Atari 2600 Games and some titles also feature Bluetooth mutliplayer, allowing for head to head play. You can buy the rest of the Atari library through in app purchase in one of two ways: either 25 separate 4-title packs for 99 ¢ each, or buy all 100 games in one go for a discounted price of $14.99. Initial review scores are pretty low, but I still think this is one to watch.
Now onto the paid apps….Namco Networks released PAC’N-JUMP, which is an interesting twist on the usual PAC-MAN gameplay and unlike any previous title in the series. To be perfectly honest, I am as sick of Doodle Jump clones as the next guy, so I hesitated to include this title. That being said, for some reason, the idea of playing PAC-MAN in a vertical style complete with traditional power pellets and fruit bonuses, just really intrigues me. Throw in 50 new Game Center achievements and I think this could be an idea that is just crazy enough to work.
Traffic Lights Cop by Wonton Studios is an interesting mix of Tetris and match-4+ gameplay with a unique twist all its own. Players must arrange the falling traffic lights (which look very much like Tetris pieces) such that at least 4 lights of the same color line up, making them disappear. The aforementioned twist is that every 7 seconds the lights will change, meaning that your strategy is in a constant state of flux, and you have to quickly adjust to the new game board.
Finally for all you physics-based puzzle fans out there, we have EggRollin, the debut title from Tilt Shift Games. Players must use the accelerometer to roll their cute little Marutama egg from platform to platform collecting all of the energy beads in a level. From slingshots to bubbles, trampolines to tunnels, there are new interesting game mechanics introduced in each of the games four 18-level groupings. Top that off with the ability to create your own levels and you’ve got a recipe for fun.
As always, please leave a comment below letting us know what new releases you picked up this week.
