This week we saw three heavy hitters get released and subsequently rocket to the top of the sales charts. The first of these movers and shakers was the newest title in the Angry Birds juggernaut, Angry Birds Rio, for both the iPhone and iPad. Next is the long-awaited Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, a multi-studio effort that was shrouded in mystery and a year in the making. Finally, we got a port of SQUARE ENIX’s eleven year-old game Final Fantasy III, debuting at the unprecedentedly high of price of $15.99. The big price tag was met with surprisingly little uproar or opposition and the title quickly shot to the peak of Apple’s “Top Grossing” chart.

Now for the less “high profile” new releases… Glu Mobile launched another freemium title, Treasure Raiders, which puts you in the role of an “international adventurer and world-renowned treasure collector”. Gamerizon launched their newest title in the “Chop Chop” franchise, Chop Chop Kicker. This one is a “fly the farthest distance” style game where players must use obstacles to their advantage to get their kicked dinosaur to fly the farthest distance possible. Gameprom, the studio responsible for several popular iOS pinball games (The Deep, Wild West and Jungle Style) returns with War Pinball, an all-new pinball table based on several 80’s action films including Platoon, Missing in Action and Navy Seals.

EA Mobile is back with a port of their creative and award winning puzzle game, Max and the Magic Marker title (previously released for both the PC and WiiWare). The game is available in separate iOS releases for the iPhone and iPad. MumboJumbo expands their very popular ball-popping series, Luxor with an all-new title for the iPad called Luxor: Amun Rising HD. BulkyPix and DotEmu have teamed up once again to bring iOS owners Gobliins 2, a careful adaptation of the PC classic point and click puzzle/adventure game, Gobliins 2 : The Prince Buffoon.

Finally I’ll round out our list of notable new releases with a few quirky titles, the first of which is FREE. Piky Team released Card Madness, a collection of 30 unlockable (and sometimes suggestive) mini games encompassed within a card collecting theme. Yehonatan Douek’s iPan: Flip Master challenges players to use their iPhone like a frying pan, cooking several types of eggs, and flipping them at just the right time while cooking and plating. Last, but not least is Cooties – Revenge of the Appendix, a tap defense game with a cute story and graphics. It is released under Chillingo’s Clickgamer.com banner.

As always, please leave a comment below letting us know what new releases you picked up this week.
