At PAX East this past Sunday, Netmarble and Marvel Entertainment revealed their ambitious (and amazing looking) next collaborative project, MARVEL Future Revolution.

Featuring an all-new original storyline and starring a number of fan-favorite MARVEL Super Heroes and Super-Villains, MARVEL Future Revolution is Marvel’s first open-world game on mobile.

Having built up a solid relationship over a 5+ year partnership between the studios on the super-popular mobile title, MARVEL Future Fight, both studios were looking for their next project to continue this successful partnership. They thought, “what could be next, what would go along with MARVEL Future Fight, (but) something that would be brand new, a new experience that MARVEL fans have never had before…” and that’s when they came up with the idea for MARVEL Future Revolution…an open-world RPG set in the Marvel Univers which was made for mobile but which has the graphical fidelity of a AAA Console title.

Written by Marvel Comics writer Marc Sumerak (Avengers, Thor, Iron Man, Fantastic Four, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, etc.), MARVEL Future Revolution’s storyline starts with numerous Earths converging across all dimensions to form an entirely-new ‘Primary Earth’. As an agent of the newly formed ‘Omega Flight’ Super Hero team, players will work together to battle an onslaught of Super-Villains, confront their suspicious behaviors and defend the universe.

During the entertaining one hour panel at PAX East with panelists Bill Rosemann (Vice President and Head of Creative at Marvel Games), Danny Koo (Director, Production at Marvel Games), Marc Sumerak (Writer, Marvel Comics), Simon Sim (President of Netmarble) the first official teaser trailer of MARVEL Future Revolution was revealed show attendees (such as myself) got our first look at the game.

It’s worth noting that the trailer above features real in-game footage which helps to illustrate “the fully-realized in a 3D open world with AAA quality graphics, a massive scale and unique freedom of play”.

So far we know that fans Marvel fans will assume the roles of various versions of Captain America, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange (with more playable heroes to be announced in the future).

They will battle a number of Super-Villains including Red Skull, Baron Mordo, M.O.D.O.K., Green Goblin, Red Goblin and more.

Due to the aforementioned convergence event, the game’s massive open universe will include merged iconic locations like Xandearth, Sakaar and more to explore.

“For fans that have dreamed of exploring the Marvel Universe in a sprawling, open-world setting, MARVEL Future Revolution gives players the chance to not only journey through these strange new locations, but also customize their favorite Heroes into never-before-seen costume combos,,” said Bill Rosemann, VP and Head of Creative at Marvel Games. “We’re excited to be working with Netmarble once again after nearly five years of continued success with MARVEL Future Fight, and look forward to MARVEL Future Revolution providing countless hours of fun for players to battle alongside their friends and save our universe.”

Players will also be able to choose and customize their heroes, to give them their own unique look and style. That way if you and your friends all want to be Spider-Man, you all can put your own take on Spider-Man. One of the cool things they showed off at PAX was the new, unique re-imagined classic hero costumes inspired by the various converged worlds.

While Open World RPGs aren’t typically a genre that I gravitate toward, I must admit that I am rather excited about this one in particular; having the ability to play around in the MARVEL Universe, right from my iPhone or iPad sounds like a childhood dream come true!

No release date was announced, but MARVEL Future Revolution is a title I will certainly be keeping an eye on as it develops and will have more information for you in the future when I get it.

In the meantime, I highly recommend watching the full PAX East 2020 panel (starts just after the 5 hour mark) and following the game’s official Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube accounts.
