Two monster new releases dominate tonight’s lineup, Rovio’s revamped acquisition, Amazing Alex and Andreas Illiger’s Tiny Wings follow-up, which has turned out to be a big FREE update to the existing Tiny Wings game for the iPhone and an all-new iPad release.

Another nice week of new releases below are more details on these titles and a number of other notable new releases that will be arriving on the App Store tonight at 11pm EST.

Any titles that I missed?
Which of these will you be picking up?

Amazing Alex
Rovio Entertainment Ltd

99¢ (iPhone) | $2.99 (iPad)

Who’s Casey? I’m Alex! Amazing Alex, is a reboot of a previous Incredible Machine-like iOS game, Casey’s Contraptions, which Rovio bought the rights to and which has subsequently been removed from the App Store. Rovio hopes that this will be their next big thing to follow their somewhat tired Angry Birds franchise. Other than graphics and a name change, it’s unclear exactly how much the game has changed since its earlier incarnation. There is no word on pricing or if it will be Rovio’s first universal app (Casey’s Contraptions was a universal app). Once again Rovio disappointingly fails to release a Universal app, forcing their fans to buy separate 99¢ iPhone and $2.99 iPad versions of the game. The question is, will people who already own Casey’s Contraptions be willing to buy the same (or very similar) game all over again just because it’s Rovio? Wait…what am I thinking, these are Angry Birds fans we’re talking about…OF COURSE THEY WILL, that’s exactly what we’ve been doing for the last 2.5 years. 😉

Fuzel – Collage Made Awesome
Not A Basement Studio

Free

In case you still haven’t purchased Not A Basement Studio’s, great (and amazingly easy to use) photo collage app, Fuzel, they are now giving you a chance to try it absolutely FREE! Along with the paid version getting updated today with loads of new features and enhancements, this new lite version enables you to try it out and unlock the full version via a one-time in-app purchase.

Universal

Professor Pym and the Secret of Steam
Naoplay

Free

This a free-to-play level-based “climb higher” style game that plays similarly to Glu’s Jump O’Clock with a hints of Astronut and Mechanic Panic. You are Professor Pym and you must make your way onward and upward by jumping between wheels and walls collecting bolts, which can be used in the in-game store to purchase special power-ups. This is a fun freebie that is definitely worth picking up.

Universal

Crash Birds Islands
ANIMA Entertainment

99¢

The much improved looking sequel to ANIMA Entertainment’s somewhat lackluster third-person flying/coin collecting 2010 title Crash Birds. With improved graphics and loftier minimum hardware requirements, it looks like this sequel finally hits its mark.

Universal

Knights of the Round Cable
Chillingo Ltd

99¢

In another entertaining looking Chillingo-published physics game, you are one of the famous Knights of the Round Cable and using your trusty grappling hook (because we all know that knights always used these) you must maneuver yourself between the various anchor points to swing and collect gems and dodge the attacks of your enemies. These gems can then be used to purchase assorted power-ups. Looks like fun…you are SWINGING on GRAPPLING HOOKS…need I say more?

iPhone

Pocket Heroes
Ayopa Games LLC

99¢

This is Ayopa Games’ highly anticipated land rather ambitious co-op multiplayer-only, RPG game built exclusively for the iPhone. It features “hand-crafted dungeons, intuitive gameplay, and hours of quests.” The developer claims that “this is a must-have experience if you love dungeon crawling, role-playing, and co-op gaming.” So if you are into that stuff, you should probably just go ahead and buy it.

Universal

Bounty Racer
The Quadsphere

$1.99

This is a very Wii-looking arcade off-road racing game with local and online multiplayer play. Though it is likely this doesn’t reach not Mario Kart quality, it looks like it could be a fun ride for just a couple of bucks.

iPhone

iPad

Tiny Wings / Tiny Wings HD
Andreas Illiger

99¢ (iPhone) | $2.99 (iPad)

There was a lot of speculation as to exactly what Tiny Wings 2 would be with details being kept very quiet, outside of a teaser trailer. Now we’ve found out that the ‘2’ means 2.0, that’s right, Tiny Wings 2 is a FREE update to the existing iPhone Tiny Wings app and an all new iPad specific app as well. The new features include : multiplayer on a single iPad, iCloud support (even syncs your game between the iPhone & iPad versions), nest upgrades, a new “Flight School” mode w/ 15 hand-designed levels, and the ability to play as the mama bird or one of her four children.

Universal

Criminal Investigation Agents – Petrodollars HD
Microids

$4.99

This all new adventure from the talented team at Microids looks like it may appeal more to hidden object gamers than point-and-clickers like myself, but it looks like it has some pretty high production values and some mini-games thrown in for good measure.

Universal

METAL SLUG 3
SNK PLAYMORE

$6.99

This is a “perfect port” of the original arcade shooting game, METAL SLUG 3 released for the NEOGEO in 2000, with a little something extra. “In addition to its classic ‘ARCADE MODE’, SNK PLAYMORE has included a ‘MISSION MODE’, allowing you to select in which stage you want to play”. I never played the original, but fans of the series may want to pick this one up, despite the hefty price tag.
