I’m all about geeky science apps, and this one is no exception. If you’re studying cells and cell structure, then Emantra’s (appropriately titled) Cell and Cell Structure app for the iPad might be right up your alley for a good study guide.

They’ve broken down the app into three sections: ‘All About Cells’, ‘Interactive Activities’, and ‘Videos’.

In All About Cells, you can literally learn all about cells (go figure). There are clear diagrams and concise bullet points giving you the information that you need to know. From basic information to very detailed images of cell anatomy (prokaryotic and eukaryotic), nothing is really left to be desired. I’m saying this as someone taking a 2000 level Microbiology course, so there’s some weight to this. If you are getting it to help in a high school science class, or even for intro College Biology, the information included is sure to be extremely useful and is well put together.

The Interactive Activities section features a word search, flashcards, and a quiz. Just about everything needed to ensure that you know the material included.

Finally we come to the Videos section which is unfortunately a bit bare at the moment, but promises to be expanded in the future. Currently included are Mitosis in both plant and animal cells and the details of the insides of both. The videos are well narrated, and easy to follow. The mitosis videos are shorter (less than two minutes) while the more detailed videos on internal structure are about five minutes each. Again, a great feature for further grasping of the subject matter.

In Conclusion

Whether you are a younger student looking for information for a project on cells, or even a freshman in college looking for a better way to understand the material, Cell and Cell Structure really delivers. I would consider it a must-own title for the bookish iOS user searching for some extra knowledge.
