With two existing Angry Birds titles for both the iPhone and iPad (Angry Birds, Angry Birds HD, Angry Birds Seasons & Angry Birds Seasons HD), did Rovio Mobile really need to release another one. Take one look at the top ten sales chart for both free and paid apps and you’ll see three Angry Bird franchise titles either at or near the top of of each! So the answer is obviously a resounding YES! From kids to grandmothers, machinists to medical doctors, it seems nobody can get enough of this cute bird flinging phenomenon. This outing is a tie-in promotion with Twentieth Century Fox’s animated film, Rio, which will be arriving in theaters next month.

The Plot
The original Angry Birds have been kidnapped and taken to Rio de Janeiro. They subsequently escape their captors and now instead of attacking green pigs, you must fling them into obstacles to save their friends, Blu and Jewel (two rare macaws who are the stars of the upcoming film).

Gameplay
Rovio promises that Angry Birds Rio “will pair the physics-based gameplay of the original game with unique twists based on the film”. It features 60 all-new levels which are split into 2 “episodes”. New episodic content will be released throughout the year (presumably as free updates). The episode selection menu shows places for new episodes in May, July, October and November, so that means there should be at least 120 more levels coming! The game offers new GameCenter achievements and leaderboards as well as special hidden fruits. It is available in both Free and 99¢ versions for the iPhone/iPod Touch and Free and $2.99 versions for the iPad.
