Origin8 has dropped the price on their critically acclaimed RTS/Tower Defense hybrid “Space Station: Frontier” down to $0.99 (regularly $2.99). Since its Christmas release, “Space Station: Frontier” has received a major content update with new missions, modes and weaponry, providing hours of extra action at no additional cost.

Friday Freebies – Bears, Bears, Bears

For this week’s freebies, we’ve chosen a bear theme…

AirBear – (Origin8)

AirBear is like a mix bewteen Doodle Jump and Karuki Rescue, requiring you to draw “goo trampolines” (aka. lines) under your ragdoll panada bear to help keep him making upward progress. Although, your climb will not be an easy one! Along the way you are trying to collect bamboo rings and avoid bombs which will tear you to pieces, quite literally causing you to lose your head. If the bear hits the ground, then it’s game over. Additional levels invert the action, and you must guide your bear as he dives perilously downward into a well. A second game mode also has you collecting puzzle pieces. The game makes perfect use of the accellerometer and touchscreen and offers some really nice graphics and a great ragdoll phsyics engine.

Lola’s Flag Adventure – (BeiZ Ltd.)

This is a cute game for kids (between the ages of 4 and 9 years old) starring an adorable panda named Lola. The goal is to help kids learn the flags of a variety of countries around the world in a fun and entertaining way. There is a memory matching game (for 4-9 year-olds) where you must find the identical pairs of flags. When you reveal a flag, the country displayed at the bottom of the screen as well as pronounced audibly. There is also a trivia game (for 6+ year-olds) where players are shown a flag and they must select the correct country from a list of three choices. Colorful graphics, cute animations and fun touch controls make this an entertaining learning tool.

Compression – (Little White Bear Studios)

Compression is a bit of a departure from Little Bear Stuio’s colorful and tranquil previous offerings. It is darker and puts a bit more pressure on the player to either put up or be shut down. While the game starts off slowly and may seem like a simple match-3 game, it actually has a sneaky twist. Your goal is to remove all of the hollow pieces from the game board before you run out of space. To make things difficult, after every third dropped piece, a wall will move inward, compressing your game board, and causing pieces to shift. There is no order to which wall will move next, making it difficult to plan to far ahead. Unlimited (randomly generated) levels and OpenFeint global scoreboards and achievements will keep you coming back for more.

Friday Freebies – Towers, Totems and Tittles

This week we thought we’d try something different, instead of just flooding you with loads of freebies (some of which are pretty junky) we’d try a “less is more” approach and just feature three of the best freebies, and here they are.

Blastwave – (Invictus Games)

Blastwave is a fun puzzle game offering 3 different game modes including Chain Reaction, Critical Mass and Collector. Each mode offers a fun a unique gaming experience. You control little creatures called Tittles, which live in a special fluid called Ooze B-50. Taking advantage of the iPhone’s touch screen, you must urge the Tittles where you want them to go by using your finger to make ripples in the ooze (like dropping a pepple into a pond). Cute graphics and appealing gameplay make this a fun freebie. (Regularly $0.99)

Sentinel: Mars Defense – (Origin8)

To celebrate the one year anniversary of its release, developer Origin8 has made their popular space-themed Tower Defense game Sentinel: Mars Defense, free for today ONLY. It’s war. Earth’s first off-world colony is fighting for survival against a savage alien onslaught. Mars is under siege and thousands of lives are on the line. Humanity’s only hope is you, the commander of the dropship Sentinel. Welcome to the future of Tower Defense! The game features great graphics and sound and a recent update added OpenFeint achievements. (Regularly $0.99)

Tiki Totems – (spokko)

Tiki Totem is a fun physics puzzle block destroying game. You must appease the Tiki Gods by carefully removing the specified number of blocks without letting the totem fall and hit the ground. The game features over 80 levels and OpenFeint integration with a boatload of achievements. The game is only free today as a part of the freeappaday.com site. (Regularly $1.99)

Origin8 Offers Weekend Freebies Throughout February

Origin8 has just annouced their February Freebie Fever promotion which begins tomorrow, Friday February 5th. To celebrate the upcoming one-year anniversary of their hit title, Sentinel: Mars Defense, Origin8 will have a series of weekend giveaways.

Every Friday in February, Origin8 will drop the price of one of their games to free for the weekend. The planned list of games involved in the promotion include: Car Mania (a time-management path drawing game), AirBear (a Doodle Jump meets Karuki style game with just a hint of ragdoll physics) and Sentinel: Mars Defense (a sci-fi themed tower-defense game). We will surely let you know the free title of the weekend as part of our Friday Freebies post, but details will also be posted on Origin8′s official website, twitter stream and Facebook page.

Origin8 had the following to say regarding their upcoming promotion:
