Kicking off their digital board game extravaganza, Asmodee Digital has just released Colt Express, the first of three planned digital board game titles slated for release before the end of the year.
Colt Express is set in the American Wild West, with players taking on the role of one of six unique train-robbin’, gun-slingin’ bandits. On their turn players either draw cards, or play action cards to a common pile.
These action cards can be anything from movement either through the train or to climb on top of the train, or offensive actions (like punching or shooting) against other robbers on the train, or just trying to steal some loot. Once the cards have been played (sometimes face up, sometimes face down) that’s when the fun begins as each card is activated in the order in which it was played. Even your best laid plans will certainly go astray as punches strike nothing but empty air, or strike the wrong player. You may walk right into the crosshairs of the Marshal or find yourself with easy pickin’s of the loot.
This digital release goes beyond just adapting the physical board game by offering new ways to play including an extensive single player mode which features “six unique bandits, each with their own goals and challenges”. There are also 30 stylized comic book chapters (5 per character) which help tell the backstories of each of the characters. And if that wasn’t enough, there are also exclusive game variants to unlock in the story mode.
Digital outlaws can also take their train robbing tactics online to compete with other thieves through online multiplayer matches and worldwide leaderboards which update in real-time. Just sign in with your Asmodee account and quickly and easily play against your friends or make some new frenemies with other available online players.
This looks like a stellar new digital board game for anyone’s collection.
