Chrome_Meteorite_Beauty-displayWhile I don’t have any personal experience with Samson Technology’s products, the company has been around since the 80s and are an “industry leader in professional audio solutions”.

Today at CES 2015, Samson revealed their latest lineup of audio accessories for PCs, smartphones and tablets, which should appeal to both content creators and consumers alike.

Perhaps the most interesting (to me personally) is Samson’s tiny new Meteorite USB Microphone aimed at podcasters, YouTubers and musicians as well as Skype and FaceTime users. This compact shiny little microphone orb features “a studio-quality 14mm capsule and dedicated audio conversion path. Meteorite’s larger, professional capsule provides a smooth, flat frequency response to capture the natural characteristics and dynamics of your voice.”

Meteorite_Chrome_w_iPad-displayThe Meteorite mounts to a special magnetic base, allowing you to “tilt and swivel the microphone to customize its positioning to your exact preferences”. Plus its small stature makes it super portable, for recording anywhere.

Obviously, with its integrated USB connection, it’s perfect for PC and Mac use, but the reason the Meteorite is so appealing to me is that iPad and iPhone owners can also connect it to their devices via Apple’s Lightning USB Camera Adapter or Camera Connection Kit (30-pin), allowing for portable podcast recording, Skype and FaceTime calling or even laying down voice tracks in Garage Band.

And now the kicker…it costs less than $40, making a tempting buy for anyone just getting into podcasting, who doesn’t want to spend a lot of money on a microphone. I’m planning to take one of these through its paces in the near future, so look for my impressions of this little guy soon.

Samson-Go-Mic-DirectSamson also revealed another (even more compact) portable little microphone called the Go Mic Direct which features Samson Sound Deck Noise Cancellation Software (Mac OS X and Windows) to help reduce background noise and improve sound quality. It too can be connected to iPads and iPhones (4S and later) using Apple’s Lightning USB Camera Adapter or Camera Connection Kit (30-pin) and costs less than $40.

Samson-Meteor-M2Finally there is the Meteor M2 – Multimedia Speaker System, a compact pair of wired speakers that will give your music, movies, games and streamed content a punch. With a zinc die-cast construction, the Meteor M2 “combines 2.5″ drivers and rear-ported passive radiators to produce exceptional low-end performance normally confined to larger speakers and 3-piece systems with dedicated subwoofers”. It connects to your PC or tablet via a simple 1/8″ Aux cable. It is available for $149.99.
